As you all should know, the CU is run for students, by students. This means the vast majority of all the money we receive is from you guys!! That's right, 'poor' students!
As well as your kind input, God also blesses us with churches willing to support us financially, so we gratefully receive some of our money from these generous givers too.
With all our money we make sure we use it in line with our vision, which is basically ‘mission’ and ‘maturity’. So specifically this means most of our money goes toward evangelistic events (leaflets, speakers, posters, food, venue etc.) and supporting our speakers (at Lunchbar, Equip and Explore meetings). This all adds up to around £100 per week. Then there are times when we spend a lot more money, such as Freshers' week, the carol service and mission week.
All this means a lot of money coming in and going out of the CU which needs keeping track of and using in a wise and Godly way. I think every single penny is worthwhile and should be taken care of. We have an amazing opportunity here to give to Gods work on our campus, one which we shouldn’t take lightly or leave to think about another day.
I want to encourage everybody to think and pray about giving to the CU. I have written up a giving bible study which can be found downloaded as a Microsoft Word Document [29KB] or PDF [78KB]. PLEASE take a look at this!
There are a few different options of how to give to the CU.
1) The easiest would be by standing order. This way you can give however much you want on a regular basis without any fuss. You could give as much as you like, even as little as £2 per month. To set up a standing order you need the CU's sort code and account number, please come and see me for this.
2) Another option is through online donations - soon there will be a online donations system on here for you to donate whenever you like.
3)You can also give me cash or cheque always made payable to 'UWCU'
4) ALSO - Our new venture - SPONSOR A LUNCHBAR!!! You can now give specifically to the running of lunchbar. Get together with friends, with your 5.20, with any Christians you live with or just on your own and sponsor a lunchbar! Each one usually costs £50 (£30 for food and £20 for the speaker). Sign up HERE and of course do go along to help out at the lunchbar you're paying for! Thursdays - Chaplaincy, 11am for set up, 12pm start, 1pm for clear up.
I’ll say again that your gifts are vital to the work of the CU and will ask you to keep in mind 2 Corinthians 9:12: “This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.”
