Remember - The CU isn't a church!

CU isn't church but the missionary arm of the local churches on campus. So, settling into a local church is CRUCIAL.

Being part of a church means that you can have and share fellowship with people of all ages, receive prayer and advice from older and wiser Christians and take in vital teaching from the Bible. We need to part of a church to grow in our faith - being nourished by God's Word (and if you're lucky you might get fed physically too!).

  1. Do take the time to visit them. A good idea would be to pick out about 3 that you'd like to visit and then to try to choose from these.
  2. It is good to have a look around, but try to get settled in a particular church as quickly as you can. At Uni - away from home and family - you need the support of a church family more than ever!
  3. Pray about the decision!

Description:
Coventry Cathedral is a big place and there is always a lot going on! We're primarily a community of worship, and there are a number of weekly services and home groups that cater to a range of worship styles. As the home of the International Centre for Reconciliation a lot of what happens at the Cathedral is centred on reconciliation; people to Jesus, to each other and to creation, involving people from a wide range of ages and backgrounds. There are a number of opportunities for students to take part in the Cathedral community, from helping with our loud and active youth ministry, to joining the choir, to just coming along to our meetings and getting to know us! There is a community of students who attend our services and meet together for student cell group where we study the bible, pray together and support each other in life's ups and downs. The Cathedral building is also visited by a large number of schools and visitors every year, and used for events by both universities.

Service description:
The majority of students that come to the Cathedral come to the 6.30pm 'Cathedral Praise' service on Sundays, which is a more informal service. However, there is a Sunday morning service and number of other services throughout the week that are more traditional in style. As well as this, we have a student cell group which meets regularly for bible study, prayer and fellowship (with everything from pool to cheese fondue!) - it's always great to see new faces, feel free to get in touch and come and meet everyone!

Getting there:
Although we have no regular transport service, just give us a text or a call and we can easily arrange for someone to come and pick you up! Also, we're right next to Pool Meadow Bus Station, if you'd prefer to catch the bus.

Jubilee Leamington

Website: http://www.jubileechurchleamington.co.uk
CU rep: Graham Jakeman
Contact: office [at]jubileechurchleamington.co.uk, 01926 459777

Description:
Jubilee Church Leamington Jubilee Church is a relatively young Church, having been started in September 2003 by a small group of people from Jubilee Church in Coventry. This all happened as a result of God speaking to the leadership team about planting churches in South Warwickshire. Jubilee Leamington is the first of those churches, but we believe that God wants us to plant 5 more in due course. So Church planting is at the core of who we are, and we believe that God has called us to reach the whole Warwick region. Our God given vision of local church is contained in the acronym CEEW. This is short for Community, Equipping, Evangelism, and Worship. Community We started in 2003 with 24 people mostly in their early to late 20's and largely Warwick graduates too! This helped us in building a very strong sense of community right away, and we have built on this as more people have joined. We now have over 60 adults and 20 children, covering all ages from 1 to 60+ (we don't ask!), and from several nations around the world; but our sense of community and family is if anything even stronger now than before. We encourage people to join a small group, where community begins, but you will find that the whole church just enjoys spending life together. In particularly we now organise 3 social events each year to which people can bring their non Christian friends if they want to, but the primary purpose of which is the continued building of community. They are amazing times of fun! Equipping As a New Frontiers church we have within our DNA a desire to see everyone equipped to fulfil their call, and take their place in the local church. This starts with the teaching of God's word (we are charismatic and reformed in our theology) which we love to expound, but it doesn't stop there, we believe that discipleship is an important aspect of the local church being brought to maturity. We have a few formal discipling processes, and we link into a much larger number in the wider New Frontiers family, but much of our discipleship is informal, and very much flows out of relationship. We believe that you can learn much from those who have already walked before you. Evangelism This is the only reason that we started a church in Leamington. We feel a call to gather more people to the Lordship of Christ and to worship him. Sometimes this works through organised evangelism, but generally our evangelism is relational and ties in with our emphasis on community. People tend to get 'drawn in' by our community, but also by the presence of the Holy Spirit amongst us. After all we want people to fall in love with Jesus not us! Worship This is a high priority for us. We love to worship our God, not just because he is worthy, but because it is such a delight. Our times of worship are free and charismatic, and are characterised by the presence of God's Spirit amongst us. We have some great worship leaders and musicians, but more importantly the church loves to worship God and there is a constant thirst amongst us for his presence. We find that as we focus on Jesus, and worship him, he loves to come and touch us. We believe in and encourage the use of the gifts of the Spirit, but we find that being in his presence actually produces something much more important; changed lives!

Service description:
Our Sunday morning service at 10.30am in the school hall includes prayers, news updates and times of singing together, using a range of both traditional and new songs. At the centre is a time of Bible teaching aiming to apply its timeless truths to our daily situations. Running parallel to this service during student terms we have also started a more interactive style service elsewhere on the school site and we meet at 7pm for a more reflective service. As part of a wide range of weekly activities we have a number of small groups which students are welcome to be part of, although taking account of the fantastic opportunities on campus we generally encourage students, particularly when they first come to university, to primarily get involved in supporting the CU groups. We offer a range of ways to help students integrate into the church family. These include linking regular students up with a specific family or individual in the church who will particularly look out for them, providing opportunities for students to serve, and offering monthly lunches at which we discuss and develop Biblical thinking on particular challenges and opportunities facing students as well as have fellowship together. Please do look at our website or contact us for more information on any of our services or activities.

Getting there:
We offer transport from campus each Sunday morning during term. Please meet at 10am by the bus shelters opposite the Arts Centre. The bus returns to campus after the morning service and after our monthly student lunches.

Our main two Sunday services are at 10:30am and 6:30pm. Our 10:30am service is very lively, with a mixture of old and new worship styles, children's groups, and preaching. We're usually finished by 12:00. 6:30 service is usually smaller and more reflective, with a more informal touch. We have longer periods of contemporary worship, preaching, and space for prayer ministry. As an added incentive, we provide donuts and coffee before and after! 6:30 is particularly popular with students and younger members. As well as our Sunday services, we have a very active homegroup network meeting weekly across Leamington for prayer, fellowship and outreach, and a 20/30s network which seeks to provide fellowship and growth for young singles and couples. On the first Sunday of the month 20/30s go out for Sunday lunch at a local venue. We are an Alpha church, and run several Alpha courses a year at various times of the week to suit particular individuals. For the coming year 09/10 we hope to run one Alpha course particularly for students living in Leamington who might find it difficult to attend meetings on campus. We hope this will lead into a growing student ministry, with student events and guest speakers, as we seek to equip students for service on campus and beyond.
